If you have been relying on those conversation starters while using a dating app and wondered why you have not much success, here is why.
1. 'Hi' - the laziest of them all , the dreaded hi.... What can a girl possible reply to this other than hi?
2. 'How's your day been?' - Hmm, I don't know you at all and I am supposed to tell you about my day... how about asking me something more substantial.
3. How's your weekend been? / Any plans for the weekend? - pretty much the same level of question as the other one. A question that is leading nowhere. Telling my schedule to a stranger and then what? Probably silence as this is so boring.
4. What would be your super power if you could have one? - Mine would be getting rid of annoying people on dating apps. Another question that is leading nowhere.
5. 'Banter' . This is good in person but on an app or site is usually waste of time of a conversation that is not adding any value with getting to know each other.
6. 'Good evening' - are you hoping for a late night chat ? Think again, nobody is that bored.
7. "Lovely weather today' - this can work well in person as a conversation starter but online is a just extremely boring. Yawn! Who in the sane mind will text about the weather with a stranger?
8. Telling the person what have you been doing today. Another boring one, I don't care you are in your garden or you just had a workout. If you are reporting your day to a stranger , it better be a good day and always make sure you are a question at the end, otherwise it is another dead end boring conversation. The person on the other end has to be really bored and have absolutely nothing going on that day to respond to this.
9. One word answers or questions. You can get away with this maybe if you are a supermodel in between photo shoots or, if you are a guy , a billionaire in between board meetings but for the rest of us it's a no-no.
Conclusion: Please try to think of something genuine you want to ask. There must at least of thing you are genuinely interested in about the person you are trying to get to know. Unless you are just checking who is desperate enough to answer to hi, then good luck, you'll need it.
